Case StudyA New York collector of American post-war art read about a proposed retrospective exhibition at a major museum in California on one of the artists in his collection. He contacted an art advisor who was able to recommend that inclusion in the show would not only benefit the work academically and add to the scholarship of the artist but contribute to the painting’s long-term prestige and value.
The advisor assisted with the loan arrangements: liaising with the museum curator and registrar, arranging for the extant cataloguing and photography to be included in the catalogue, arranging pre- and post-loan conservation report and working with the museum to meet insurance, shipping and installation requirements. The collector attended the opening of the exhibition which turned out to be the artist’s most comprehensive retrospective to date, accompanied by a scholarly exhibition catalogue.
